Presentations by the Dortmund School of the Sociology of Science and Technology at the 2026 DGS Conference

From September 28, 2026, through October 2, 2026, the DGS Congress “Futures of Society” will take place in Mainz. The Sociology of Science and Technology team will be represented with a variety of presentations at the 43rd Congress of the German Sociological Association.

Cornelius Schubert is organizing the panel in collaboration with Simon Egbert ( HSU Hamburg), Stefanie Raible (JKU Linz), and Julia Schubert (GU Frankfurt) “Knowledge of the Future” and Its Production in Science, Technology, and Society for the DGS Section on Science and Technology Studies. The focus is on the political and scientific implications of the production of “knowledge about the future” as well as the actors involved.

Ronja Trischler, together with Kevin Wiggert (TU Berlin), is organizing the Ad Hoc Group 77: Sociology of Repair. The ad hoc group brings together researchers to discuss the current sociological significance of repair as a theoretical concept and as a subject of empirical analysis.

Our department is particularly well-represented with two presentations on the panel Bodies (in) the Future organized by the DGS Section on Sociology of the Body and Sports: Ann Kristin Augst and Cornelius Schubert will present a joint talk titled “Popular Body Data: Apps and Devices as Embodiments of the Future in Healthcare,” Isabelle Bosbach will represent the department with her presentation “Cryopreserving the Reproductive Future—Multiple Bodies of Contemporary Futures.”

In addition, Cornelius Schubert was invited by the joint ethics committee of the DGS and BSiD to join five other sociologists in delivering a brief introductory presentation each, followed by a joint discussion on the topic of Research Ethics and AI in Sociology , each delivering a brief presentation followed by a joint discussion on current developments and research ethics challenges in dealing with generative artificial intelligence.
