In this article, Ann Kristin Augst uses the example of menstrual cups to show how menstruating individuals engage in specific stigma management practices to avoid the perception of their menstruation.

Menstruating is still socially stigmatized. Therefore, dealing with menstrual blood requires specific (stigma) management on the part of those who menstruate to minimize the risk of menstruation being visible. In the article "The un/visibility of menstrual blood and hygiene articles: stigma management using the example of the menstrual cup" Ann Kristin Augst uses how menstrual cups are handled to illustrate the relevance of the visibility of menstrual blood. The article was published in the magazine Betrifft Mädchen, whose fourth issue in 2023 is titled 'menstruieren-(k)ein tabu'.
