The campus of Dortmund University is located near the Dortmund West motorway junction, where the A45 Sauerland line crosses the B1/A40 Ruhr expressway. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, the Dortmund-Dorstfeld exit on the A40 leads to the North Campus. The university is signposted at both exits.

By public transport

The "Dortmund Universität" S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S-Bahn line S1 runs every 15 or 30 minutes to Dortmund main station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf main station via Bochum, Essen and Duisburg. The university can also be reached by bus lines 445, 447 and 462. Timetable information can be found on the homepage of the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association, and DSW21 also offer an interactive route network map.

By 'H-Bahn'

The H-Bahn, an elevated railway, is one of the landmarks of the TU Dortmund. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Centre via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 commutes every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this distance in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, it takes just over 20 minutes to get to Dortmund Central Station with the AirportExpress and from there to the university with the S-Bahn. Düsseldorf Airport, about 60 kilometres away, offers a wider range of international flight connections and can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university station.

Dortmund's Sociology of Science and Technology back from EASST2026

EASST2026 took place in Kraków from September 8 to 11. The conference of the European Association for the Study of Science and Technology is held every two years in a different European university city. Under the theme “More than now: Exploring resilient futures,” the conference offered great opportunities to engage with other STS researchers through panels, workshops, plenary sessions, and social events.

Our team was once again represented with a variety of contributions:

Ann Kristin Augst and Cornelius Schubert spoke on “Patient-generated data: the temporalities of experience and expertise in lifestyle devices and medical authority ” during the panel “Caring for limits in and beyond the ‘now’: The case of health.”
Ann Kristin Augst was also a co-convenor of the panel “Fragile futures: Living with chronic post-infectious illnesses.”
Julia Kurz presented on “Success and failure are not neutral—about the interplay of power, ethics, and negotiations in interdisciplinary projects ” during the panel “STS confessions as politics of resilience: making untold stories matter.”
Clara Gander and Tereza Preussovà chaired a session in the panel “Building and Repairing the Future” co-organized by Ronja Trischler.
Ronja Trischler also co-convened the panel “The Futures of Qualitative Inquiries: Post-Digital Methods, Pre-Digital Methodologies,” in which Cornelius Schubert participated as a discussant.
