How is artificial intelligence changing the design and implementation of public policies?

Rouholah Eslami is a visiting scholar at the Sociology of Science and Technology Group for one year. Under the topic “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Public Policy Cycle,” he will examine how decision-making processes in politics are changing as a result of the use of artificial intelligence systems. During his research stay at TU Dortmund, he is developing a framework for analysing this transformation through three interconnected dimensions: epistemology, institutions, and techniques of government. His aim is to examine how new forms of knowledge and technological infrastructures reshape political institutions, governmental practices, public policy, and the exercise of political power, and to develop a comparative account of governmentality from the mechanical era to the information, digital, and AI age. The project lies at the intersection of the sociology of technology and political philosophy. We look forward to the exchange!

Rohollah Eslami is Associate Professor of Political Science at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran, and is currently a Research Visitor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, TU Dortmund University.

His research focuses on governmentality, technologies of power, political institutions, political theory, public policy, and the relationship between technology and political transformation. His current research examines the historical and theoretical transition from mechanical forms of governmentality to the forms of governance emerging in the information and digital age, with particular attention to the transformative implications of artificial intelligence. His broader research interests include Public Policy, Governmentality Studies, Political Theory, Artificial Intelligence and Governance, Science and Technology Studies, Middle Eastern Politics, and Institutional Transformation.
