Digital body knowledge

With wearables, apps and Internet platforms, more and more digital body data is being collected and disseminated. Health technologies in eHealth and mHealth also generate and evaluate body data. According to the thesis of the project, the broad attention paid to this digital body knowledge also affects the relationship between patients and physicians.

In this subproject, we are working with patients and physicians to investigate how their relationships are changing as a result of the spread of digital medical and media technologies. We ask about the opportunities and possible conflicts when patients themselves produce biomedical data and assert them vis-à-vis physicians.

The aim is to make these changes visible in their diversity with high empirical resolution. In particular, we investigate whether, and if so, how dynamics of digitization and popularization can lead to new forms of justification of professional knowledge vis-à-vis popular knowledge.
