The campus of Dortmund University is located near the Dortmund West motorway junction, where the A45 Sauerland line crosses the B1/A40 Ruhr expressway. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, the Dortmund-Dorstfeld exit on the A40 leads to the North Campus. The university is signposted at both exits.

By public transport

The "Dortmund Universität" S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S-Bahn line S1 runs every 15 or 30 minutes to Dortmund main station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf main station via Bochum, Essen and Duisburg. The university can also be reached by bus lines 445, 447 and 462. Timetable information can be found on the homepage of the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association, and DSW21 also offer an interactive route network map.

By 'H-Bahn'

The H-Bahn, an elevated railway, is one of the landmarks of the TU Dortmund. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Centre via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 commutes every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this distance in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, it takes just over 20 minutes to get to Dortmund Central Station with the AirportExpress and from there to the university with the S-Bahn. Düsseldorf Airport, about 60 kilometres away, offers a wider range of international flight connections and can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university station.

GWTF Jahrestagung 2023: Klimawelten Wissenschaft, Technik und Gesellschaft im Dauerumbau?

GWTF Annual Conference, November 16 and 17, 2023, TU Dortmund University.

Climate change affects science, technology and society to an extent that hardly any other socio-technical transformation has done so far. The complexity, permanence and multi-layered nature of the associated challenges are reflected in changes in research policy, funding programs and formats; they affect the processes of university and non-university knowledge generation and thus also put research institutions under increasing pressure to act. Without extensive mechanization, especially through technologies of digitization and decarbonization, a solution to the pressing problems seems hardly conceivable, including comprehensive datafication in high-performance infrastructures as a basic prerequisite. In short, the increasing complexity of (global) societal challenges gives rise to new orders of problematization and problem-solving, in which science, technology, politics, business and civil society are constantly reformed, related to each other and legitimized.
