The campus of Dortmund University is located near the Dortmund West motorway junction, where the A45 Sauerland line crosses the B1/A40 Ruhr expressway. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, the Dortmund-Dorstfeld exit on the A40 leads to the North Campus. The university is signposted at both exits.

By public transport

The "Dortmund Universität" S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S-Bahn line S1 runs every 15 or 30 minutes to Dortmund main station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf main station via Bochum, Essen and Duisburg. The university can also be reached by bus lines 445, 447 and 462. Timetable information can be found on the homepage of the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association, and DSW21 also offer an interactive route network map.

By 'H-Bahn'

The H-Bahn, an elevated railway, is one of the landmarks of the TU Dortmund. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Centre via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 commutes every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this distance in two minutes.

By plane

From Dortmund Airport, it takes just over 20 minutes to get to Dortmund Central Station with the AirportExpress and from there to the university with the S-Bahn. Düsseldorf Airport, about 60 kilometres away, offers a wider range of international flight connections and can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university station.

Two lectures and two panel organizations from the sociology of science and technology team

At the EASST-4S conference in Amsterdam with over 3,300 participants, the team from the Sociology of Science and Technology at TU Dortmund was also actively involved. Our team was represented with two presentations and two panel organizations:

Ann Kristin Augst (presenter):

I simply had no idea what I was allowed to do. Self-tracking as a popular method by and for patients to explore and understand their own chronic illness in more detail

This presentation sheds light on how patients and people with chronic diseases monitor their own health/illness with the help of fitness trackers or apps. It also explores how doctors deal with this patient-generated data and figures - and the resulting expertise of the patients for themselves.

Julia Kurz (presenter):

Playing with (dis)empowering for participation in digital health transformations

In this reflection about being an embedded STS researcher I will argue that being an embedded STS researcher demands and likewise enables active positioning work that is driven by individual decisions, project design as well as by the context of the consortia and its members.

Innovation discontinuities

Innovation is often conceived as a universal solution for transformative change. We seek to question this problem-solution package from a Critical Studies of Innovation perspective. We call for studies of discontinuities in innovation practices or policies and how they vary in societal fields.

Ronja Trischler (convenor):

Qualitative digital methods: transforming methodologies

The panel aims to revive the methodological dialogue between STS and Digital Methods by asking what a consistent understanding of Digital Methods as a qualitative methodology might look like.
